Artist's Statement:

Watercolors and oils are my preferred mediums. I like to paint and draw a variety of everyday subject matter. Painting allows me to slow down and really contemplate a person, object, or "nature". I continue to explore and experiment with how to express visual qualities.

Light, color, and mood fascinate me. I attempt to create an emotional connection, rather than strive for total realism.

Brief Bio

I am an oil and watercolor painter living in the Hudson River Valley. My studio is in Delmar, NY. I grew up in Virginia and have always spent a lot of time outside enjoying nature.  I loved to draw and paint flowers, people, animals, and scenes.  I attended Carleton College where I took many studio arts classes.   I went on to receive my doctorate in clinical psychology, which has been my profession.   

I taught Psychology of the Arts and the Artist at VCU and have given an oil demonstration at the Troy Arts Guild. Most recently I taught a watercolor class at the Capital District Arts Center in Troy. I have had many solo shows in Vermont and New York . I lived in Vermont for 25 years and recently moved to New York.   I returned to painting more actively in the last 10 years and am currently painting full time.  I attended a week artist's residency at the Vermont Studio Center in 2001. I have attended workshops by Fred Hines, Joe Mayer, Karen Rosaceo, and Marge Laurie.   I am a member of the Saratoga County Arts Council, the Colonie Art league, the Bethlehem Art League, West River Artists, and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
